Why do we use Touchstone Series as our course books for adult students? This is the question I have been asked several times in the past few months. The answer is that corpus-informed textbooks like Touchstone help teachers and learners more than traditional ones. A corpus is a collection of texts stored in a database which will be analyzed by the researches using certain software to answer the following questions:
What are the most frequent words and phrases in English?

Which tenses do people use most often?
|

What prepositions follow particular verbs?
|
How do people use words like can, may, and might?
|
How many words must a learner know in order to participate in everyday conversation?
|

How do corpus-informed textbooks do better?
